COMPLETED - Friday
5th November 2021 - Reseller/Designer account
- this maintenance of the server is now completed
(moore) at 16:10, 5th Nov 2021.
Potential issue:
IP address change:
For any domains set to third party
nameservers (eg Cloudflare), we ask that the IP
address in the DNS settings is changed after the
migration.
We will be putting firewall rules
into place to forward all traffic from the old IP to
the new one for an indefinite amount of time
(minimum of 6 months) so there is no need to
urgently change the IP at third party nameservers.
We would however recommend changing the IP as soon
as possible after the migration to minimise network
latency. Login to your cpanel and the
NEW IP address of your account is now shown
on the right.
Email Settings:
We recommend to clients that 'mail.domain.com'
(replace domain.com with your own domain) is the
recommended host name for the POP, IMAP and SMTP
servers in email software settings. While other
settings such as the server hostname or IP address
may work, this is not guaranteed.
Following the
server migration, if you experience issues
connecting to email (either sending or receiving) we
recommend checking you are using the correct
settings in the email client, particularly
mail.domain.com as the sending and receiving
host/server (for more details see:
seiretto.com/web_hosting/faq.php#Email).
It is also recommended that you restart the
email software and computer when troubleshooting
email issues to terminate any hung/out dated
connection sessions.
Two-Factor
Authorisation / 2FA:
In some cases
2-factor authentication settings may have been
disabled so will need setting up again in the
cPanel.
Following on from the
recent upgrades to package resources we are moving
accounts to newer, more powerful hardware.
We
will be migrating your server on Friday 5th November
2021.
** What does the work involve?
We will take care of all of the migration work. This
involves copying all aspects of your account to the
new server which retains all data, databases,
emails, settings and everything else done within
cPanel.
** Will there be any downtime?
All data will be migrated while websites and
services remain online. Once the first sync has
completed we will do a (much quicker) second copy to
sync any changed or new files. Following this there
will be a period of downtime of up to 5 minutes
while we implement some firewall rules to forward
all traffic to the new hardware.
** Do I need
to do anything?
Backup - ensure you have a
recent backup of your website/DNS which you have
securely stored away, see:
https://www.seiretto.com/newsletters/backups.php
Also, you may need to make some settings changes
if the following applies to you (for the main
majority of our clients these do not apply):
1. If you have any domain names that ARE NOT set to
nameservers under our control, you will need to
change the IP address that your domain points to at
your DNS provider after the migration. We will be
installing traffic forwarding so everything will
continue working on the old IP address for some
months and we will contact you if your DNS hasn't
updated after this time. If you are unsure whether
this applies to you, it most likely does not.
2. If you know that your website does not work
on PHP 7, you should set your account to use an
older PHP version before the migration. Our newer
servers have PHP 7.4 as the default version which
most websites will work on, however, if you know
that your website won't work, set an older version
now to avoid any issues.
3. If any of your
websites connect to third party API's such as
payment gateways that need the server IP
whitelisting, you will need to update the IP address
in their system. Your new reseller IP address and
the new main server IP address will be sent after
the work is complete.
In the event that a
setting needs changing, and you are unable to
complete the change, please place a support request
in the normal manner. Thank you for your
cooperation.
2nd Nov 2020: email delivery
to BT and Yahoo Identified - We are seeing that a
number of rejections to BT and Yahoo are being
caused by badly formed SPF records. If you are
having issues sending to addresses with BT and Yahoo
from our systems we recommend using the following
SPF with the DNS:
v=spf1 include:secureserver.net
exists:%{i}.mta.spf.extendcp.co.uk
exists:%{i}.web.spf.extendcp.co.uk -all

(BST) we will be performing routine maintenance on
the Shared Windows environment. During this
maintenance, servers will be rebooted.
12
and 13th Aug 2019 - Designer/reseller accounts -
Mail is being delayed. The email content filters,
which try to reduce the volume of incoming spam
email, are currently under high load, and this has
created a back-log of emails coming into the
cluster, which are still gradually making their way
through the network. Will I receive my missing
emails? Yes, the emails are queued and will still be
delivered to your inbox, but not as quickly as you
may be used to. Is there a time frame?
We do not have a current time frame for resolution
of this incident, once the current back-log has
passed through the email cluster, normal mail
service will be resumed. Should I ask the
sender to re-send the email? No, please do not
ask the sender to re-send the email to you, this
only causes more back-logged mail and slows down the
resolution of regular service.
12th July 2019 - Planned
System Maintenance Windows Shared Hosting
Maintenance - we will be performing routine

13th of September 2018, and
the 14th of September 2018 - MySQL upgrade
As
part of our commitment to security and performance
in our webhosting environment, we are upgrading
MySQL on your server from version 5.6 to version
5.7. This is an important change to ensure continued
compatibility with current and future software, and
ensuring the stability and security of services for
all customers. For most customers this change will
have minimal impact on your sites hosted with us.
Most popular software such as Joomla or Wordpress
will be fully compatible and will not require any
changes, however this may be a good time to check
that your installation is up-to-date.
Some
bespoke software could experience problems if it has
been designed around earlier versions of MySQL and
we ask all clients to ensure custom code is
compatible with the newer version of MySQL. If
unsure about this please speak to your web
developer. The upgrade to 5.7 is not reversible, and
version 5.6 is no longer supported by the maker. For
more detailed info about this upgrade please visit
the official MySQL page here:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/upgrading-from-previous-series.html

Hotmail/Outlook and other Microsoft addresses
sending issues - affecting some Premier, Small
business and Starter accounts - This is still
ongoing, we are continuously monitoring this and
will keep this page up to date with the latest
information. Investigating - We are currently seeing
a large amount of emails being deferred when sending
to Hotmail/Outlook and other Microsoft addresses.
This includes and domains that have emails hosted
with outlook services. This looks to be caused by a
limit on their servers restricting the amount of
emails that can be received from our shared
mailservers. Our sytem admin team are currently
investigating and attempting to contact them for
further details, or a possible work around. On
inspection this may not be effecting all emails sent
to these addresses, but a large amount are being
blocked. This will cause bouncebacks to the sender,
so you can see which emails have been blocked. Our
apologies for any inconvenience caused here in the
meantime.
5.24pm, 27/01/2017 We are
currently seeing abnormal behaviour on VPS machines.
We expect to have it back to normal operation soon,
and apologise for any inconvenience caused. Update
-> We have identified that two disks have failed on
KVMhost 69, we are currently look at restoring the
data however due to the size of the data we have a
rough estimate of 24 hours for this to be completed.
Update 10:07 -> We are currently still restoring the
data, we will provide you further updates shortly,
we apologise for any inconvenience caused regarding
this. Recovery is ongoing but the success rate
is currently around 20% and some VPSs are being
restored from backups.

Migration.
We will be
migrating all Designer accounts to new faster
servers. As the migration will start at 1am we
expect the whole process to complete by normal
business hours (8-9am).
You should ensure you
backup now, or the day before the migration, so you
have a recent copy of your data, please see:
http://www.seiretto.com/newsletters/backups.php
No other action is required by you. However,
during the migration there will be a period where
the DNS is switching across to the new servers the
requests can go from visitors to either server, so
updates to sites, etc. should not be made during
this time and if you have an ecommerce store orders
may come through to either one (if this could be an
issue for your website then it may be best to treat
it as a maintenance window and not take orders
during this time).
7am 8th Dec - all
accounts now copied to new servers, other than minor
issues all systems are working as expected.
Any domains not using our nameservers
(ns1.swebhosting.co.uk - ns2.swebhosting.co.uk) must
update the DNS A records to point to 46.29.89.246
(replacing 83.223.99.200 or 83.223.99.201).
8pm Wedneday 7th December to 8am Thursday
8th December 2016
We
will be updating our members area and renewals
backend systems. During this period you
will be unable to login or complete renewals, please
return when updates are complete. Apologies
for any inconvenience this causes.
22nd Aug 2016 - scheduled upgrades
starting at 8pm we will be
performing scheduled upgrades to our shared Linux
hosting environment, server hardware will be
upgraded so websites may experience slowness/brief
periods of downtime. We apologies for any
inconvenience caused.
3pm, 10th Feb
2016 - Power outage
There was a brief
interruption in power during works in one of our
data centre halls. Which is affecting VPS servers,
Premier, Small Business and Starter accounts.
This has now been restored and all servers are
coming back online. However, ramifications
continued for several hours as servers rebooted and
multiple errors occured. 11.50am 11th
Feb: Service is returning to normal slowly.
11th Jan 2016 - Traffic from AWS Network
Over the Christmas period
we experienced an extremely large amount of traffic
in the form of a DOS attack which has originated
from AWS's network. As such, to protect our
services, we have had to block all traffic from that
network. Our systems admin team have contacted
the AWS abuse team to try and resolve this issue.
Once the AWS abuse team have been able to identify
the origin within their network for the attack, and
resolve the issue, we can then safely enable traffic
from their network again. Apologies for
any inconvenience this causes.
